On August 4, the Fox Valley community has an opportunity to enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner from popular 5B’s Catering Service, while supporting local social service agencies hit hard by COVID-19.
Fox Valley United Way (FVUW) created the drive-thru event to help raise funds for its Fox Valley Coronavirus Relief and Recovery Fund. Launched in March in response to the increased demand for social services in Kane and Kendall counties, the Fund continues to help the community rebuild in the wake of the pandemic. “Organizations that assist children and families through economic crisis have seen three to four times the number of people seeking help the last 4 months,” said Michael Meyer, FVUW CEO. “We expanded our relief fund to help organizations and individuals recover, as businesses and schools begin to reopen and as the community faces unanticipated challenges. The BBQ fundraiser will add to the support that we can provide these social service agencies and the people who benefit from their care.”
In addition, the event is a chance to thank a local first responder through a meal donation. Geneva and St. Charles fire and police department staff will receive a free BBQ meal that evening, thanks to generous community members.
Kane County Cougars are hosting the event, opening its parking lot for meal pick-up between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. that evening. “We are so grateful to the Kane County Cougars for their willingness to partner with us for this occasion,” said Meyer. “They have always had a great reputation for working with businesses and local organizations to benefit the community.”
Preorders can be placed online at www.foxvalleyunitedway.org/BBQ. Orders will also be taken at the event.
